Stellenbosch University and Paul Roos Gymnasium have signed an agreement to develop a self-sustaining indoor cricket facility on the school’s property, facing the main cricket oval. SU will furthermore develop a multi-purpose sports field on a designated portion of its property adjacent to the new indoor facility.

To celebrate this special agreement a small ground-breaking ceremony was held on 23 March alongside the construction premises.  Besides Paul Roos Gymnasium staff, learners and members of its governing body, the event was attended by representatives of Remgro, Stellenbosch Academy of Sport, the University of Stellenbosch, key project managers and contractors involved in the project.  The event introduced Paul Roos’s newly appointed head of cricket, Piet Botha, who started in 2021. He is in charge of the indoor cricket facility, and is dedicated to instilling a professional cricketing culture aimed at raising the bar on Paul Roos cricket. It is Botha’s mission to entice young aspiring professional cricketers to choose Paul Roos Gymnasium as their school of choice for cricket. The new indoor cricket facility is an important step in achieving that goal.
