Masithethe! Teachers’ Workshop 2023
Paul Roos Gymnasium and ENSafrica hosted its second annual Masithethe! Teachers’ Workshop on Tuesday 31 January.
Entries to the Masithethe! isiXhosa Oratory Competition officially opened on the same day. Home,First and Second Additional Language isiXhosa speakers in high schools are invited to enter this competition. Teachers from Westerford High, Grootte Schuur High School, Rhenish Girls’ High, Calling Academy, Paul Roos Gymnasium and a teacher in training at the University of Stellenbosch attended the teachers’ workshop.
The workshop focused on preparing learners in the art of public speaking in all its various categories. The purpose of this competition is to promote multilingualism in the Western Cape and encourage learners to speak isiXhosa in both official and public spaces. Additional schools who indicated they will be participating this year were Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof, St. Stithians, Makapula Secondary School, and more.
The competition is now officially open and schools can enter their learners to participate. The 2023 programme will include music performances between categories which celebrates the language and culture. Any queries can be directed to Ms Christine Canaris at ccanaris@paulroos.co.za.
