Die span wat die praatkunste bemeester: PRG Forum

For centuries, the Forum was the centre of day-to-day life in Rome: the site of triumphal processions and elections; the venue for public speeches, criminal trials, and gladiatorial matches; and the nucleus of commercial affairs.

PRG Forum describes the meeting place of many of the activities in which Paul Roos learners exercise their prowess in the art of the spoken word.

Why PRG Forum?

Everyone must present a speech at some stage of their life, be it a toast at a wedding or the presentation of an idea at work. PRG Forum therefore provides learners with the opportunity for prepared speeches that boost self-confidence, improve logical thinking, increase vocabulary and fluency. PRG Forum also allows learners the opportunity to take part in unprepared speeches and debating which enables them to think on their feet, think critically, learn to listen, identify flaws in logic, manage emotions and collaborate within a team.

PRG Forum Activities

  • Debat | Debating
Leerders neem deel in spanne om ’n gegewe onderwerp op ’n formele wyse te argumenteer. Hierdie formaat bevorder kritiese- en logiese denke en leer vir leerders hoe om op hulle voete te dink.
  • Redenaars | Public Speaking
Openbare redevoering (soms redenaarskuns of orasie genoem) is die lewering of aanbieding van ’n toespraak waar ’n individu ’n lewende gehoor direk aanspreek ten einde hulle op ’n gestruktureerde, voorbedagte manier in te lig, te beïnvloed of te vermaak.
  • Toastmasters
Formal program that develops youth leadership and public speaking that allows learners the ability to earn an internationally accredited certificate. The international youth leadership speaking programme is facilitated by the University of Stellenbosch. With thanks to Prof Strasheim & Mrs Strasheim. The course culminates into a special gala evening attended by PRG Forum members, other school participants, VIP guests and parents.
  • Moot Court
A legal based style of debating focused on learners who want to follow a career in law. Learners write an argumentative essay about how they would plead a specified case in court. Best essays are chosen to deliver their arguments in front of a real judge.
