PRG Athletes at ASA SA report

Paul Roos Gymnasium had 11 athletes representing Boland at the ASA U/16, U/18, U/20 National Track & Field Championships held at the NWU Mc Arthur Athletics Stadium in Potchefstroom between Thursday, 31 March and Saturday, 2 April 2022.

These athletes qualified to represent Boland by virtue of meeting very stringent qualifying times/distances/heights and shone on the biggest stage in the country.

Joshua Acker (Boys u18 Shotput) and Reuben van der Merwe (Boys u16 Javelin) both won silver medals for their respective events while Zak Hickman claimed a bronze medal for Boys u16 Hammer throw and Handre Nel also won bronze for Boys u18 Pole-vault. Joshua Acker, Dehan Frylinck, John-Olivier Klynsmith and Musahdiq Cornelson all ended 4th in their finals and special mention must be made of Dehan battling through a knee injury to still compete on the day. Simon Booysen jumped a personal best of 4,10m in the Boys u16 Pole-vault. Christopher Steyn and Luke van der Merwe also took part but unfortunately could not qualify for the finals of the events.

Harrison Gibson, Divan Lamprecht, Jonathan Essien and Norman Cilliers all had to withdraw but were selected to represent Boland, which means 15 PRG athletes had met the stringent qualifying criteria. Congratulations to all coaches, parents and athletes involved with a very successful athletics season!
