PRG Athletics update – May 2022
Paul Roos Gymnasium had athletes representing Boland at the recent ASA Senior National Track and Field Championships and the ASA National Relay Championships.
The ASA National Track and Field Championships were held at Greenpoint Stadium between 21 and 23 April 2022 with Dehan Frylinck and Handré Nel selected to represent Boland in Pole Vault. Unfortunately Dehan had to withdraw due to a knee injury sustained at the ASA Age Group Championships, but his best performance this season means he is nationally ranked at a senior level. Handré finished in sixth place with a heigh of 4.40m, which is an exceptional achievement for an u/17 athlete! His seasons best performance of 4.60m is a testament to his hard work and the great coaching by JP van As.
At the ASA National Relay Championships, held between 29 and 30 April in Sasolburg, PRG had three speedsters taking part. Musahdiq Cornelson (U16), Elisha Miller (U18) and Jonathan Essien (U18 but also running for the U20 team) all collected a medal for their efforts. Musahdiq earned a silver medal as part of the U16x100m relay with Elisha and Jonathan being part of the U18 4x400m relay that also won the silver medal. Congratulations to all athletes, coaches and managers involved with these quality performances!
