Strong Performances from Paul Roos Athletes at Western Cape Championships

Paul Roos Gymnasium athletes had a great showing at the Western Cape Championships this past weekend, bringing home six gold, six silver, and six bronze medals while also earning several top-five finishes.

Notable Results

Jason Hendricks led the way with gold medals in the 300m hurdles (38.88s) and 400m (50.28s). Zachary Ribeiro won gold in the long jump (6.45m), while Joey Calitz took gold in discus (58.36m) and silver in shot put (15.35m). Kean du Toit cleared 4.00m in the pole vault to secure another gold medal.

Deaconn Willemse put in a strong effort, earning silver in both the 300m hurdles (40.40s) and 400m (53.04s). In the field events, Tyler Ridout (hammer throw – 43.70m) and Cronan Willis (triple jump – 13.72m) also took silver.

Adding to the podium finishes, Francois Nel (400m – 49.42s), Marcus Viljoen (110m hurdles – 14.21s), Ethan Badenhuizen (hammer throw – 48.88m), Liam Koekemoer (3000m – 9:01.47), and Zak Hickman (shot put – 15.85m) all secured bronze medals.

Other top performances included Nathan Barnard (4th in shot put), Zak Hickman (5th in hammer throw), Lian Jansen (5th in 400m hurdles), and Geshem Pietersen (5th in long jump).

It was a solid weekend of competition, and our athletes represented Paul Roos Gymnasium well. Congratulations to everyone who competed and gave their best. The focus now shifts to the ASA and SASA Championships, and we look forward to seeing our athletes perform well on the national stage.
